The story takes place back in 1756, when France was being ruled by Louis XV for over 40 years. It is the Age of Enlightenment or “Siècle des Lumières” as it is called in French. The cultural influence was then reaching its peak and arts like theater, philosophy, literature, painting, sculpture were booming. Another field was taking flight: tailoring. Indeed, the previous century, during the reign of Louis XIV, was the apogee in the French tailoring history. Jean-Baptiste Brunold was a skillful tailor, who elbowed his way up from being a modest artisan to one of the most renowned tailors after being introduced to the King’s royal court. His intricate know-how and quality fabrics were recognized as the finest and most prestigious in the kingdom. For centuries, his statecraft of tailoring was passed down from generation to generation. Coliseum Suits was named in 2006 in homage to Jean-Baptiste’s passion for Rome and especially the famous arena: the “Colloseum.” The logo is deeply inspired from the shape of the elliptical amphitheater.
